Our Cinema

Our Cinema is a film education project developed by Dr Jamie Chambers (University of Edinburgh) and Dr Robert Munro (Queen Margaret University) that unlocks the transformative potential of filmmaking for young learners. With a particular emphasis on lived experiences, the project encourages young people to see the cinema in their own lives through a series of filmmaking exercises, culminating in short film projects.

Our website is currently under development, but once up and running you will find a wealth of resources aimed at educators and young people. These resources will include:

• Detailed, step-by-step guidance on each of our filmmaking exercises comprising a two year filmmaking programme
• Carefully chosen short clips from film history to serve as examples of each exercises
• Newly filmed examples of each exercise, created by award-winning filmmaker Jamie Chambers
• Newly created video essays exploring film history and theory related to the exercises
• Over time, a bank of filmed material made by young learners
